Biography

Andreas’ research deals with functional composite nanomaterials. His work focuses on the development of simple, quick and scalable ways to combine nanocrystals with materials that are used in everyday products (e.g. plastics, wool and paper).

He has developed techniques to incorporate a wide range of nanomaterials into silicone-based polymers. Depending on the type of the nanomaterial incorporated different functionalities can be created, varying from antimicrobial, fluorescent, dichroic, photo- to thermochromic. The development of his “smart silicone” technology has been funded by KiwiNet through the Emerging Innovator Fund.
