Our wireless communications team has been developing world-leading wireless radio communications solutions for over 25 years.
We have significant research and development capability in wireless signal processing, digital radio design, digital signal processing (DSP), wireless mesh networks, localisation systems, smart edge processing and implementation on field-programmable gate array (FPGA) and DSP platforms.
The team is a leading developer of custom low-latency, high-throughput modems capable of operating in high interference and noisy environments.
We have substantial expertise in digital signal processing algorithms for radio communications, as well as electronics and embedded system-on-a-chip design (SoC). We have developed single-carrier high order quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM), orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM) and cable modems for supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA), backhaul, point to point, point to multi-point, for the aerospace and oil and gas industries.

The research team develops innovative low complexity Multiple-input, multi-output (MIMO) and orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM) systems.
We have developed significant capability in cognitive radio systems.
The team develops low-cost localisation systems using ubiquitous wireless devices such as Bluetooth and ultra-wideband radios.
Smart edge processing
Many applications have stringent latency requirements and limited communications bandwidth. Data therefore needs to be processed at the source. The team develops low-complexity machine learning algorithms for low-power embedded microprocessor and programmable logic platforms.

The team specialises in design and implementation of digital radios.
Our team has developed hardware and firmware and deployed mesh networks in challenging environments.

Modem design: customised algorithm design and installation to optimise modem performance.
What we did
Applied our expertise in wireless signal processing and FPGA design to produce a synchroniser able to detect packets with high probability in very low signal-to-noise levels, making a best-in-class modem.
We have licensed a patented synchronisation algorithm and its implementation to 4RF for their Asprisa SR+TM modem.
Satellite communication (SATCOM) components.
What we did/are doing
Providing wireless communication system components for space applications. These are existing IP cores from our library or custom developed on a need basis.
We have supplied Viterbi Decoder and GSE modules for SATCOM systems. Due to the world-class quality of our product offering and customer service, we are the preferred IP core supplier of San Diego-based Innoflight Inc.
To develop a virtual fence system for cattle. Control animal movement, monitor animal wellbeing, reduce fencing and labour costs.
What we did/are doing
Assessed hardware and firmware of proposed technology, recommended a development platform based on off-the-shelf equipment.
We have provided expert technology advice to a start-up company at a time when they didn’t have the expertise themselves. Provided a cost-efficient development platform to get the product development going as quickly as possible.
